Donald Trump
Real-estate developer and two-term U.S. president who pushed brand, media attention, and negotiating leverage to their limits
Donald Trump was born in Queens, New York, in 1946. From 1971 he took over the family real-estate business and renamed it the Trump Organization, building a public profile through Manhattan landmarks such as Trump Tower as well as hotels and casinos, then shifting increasingly toward an asset-light model centered on licensing the Trump name. His Atlantic City casinos filed for bankruptcy protection multiple times in the 1990s. From 2004 he hosted NBC's reality show The Apprentice, amplifying his national fame. He announced a presidential campaign in 2015 and was elected the 45th U.S. president (2017-2021), during which he signed the 2017 tax cuts, appointed three Supreme Court justices, imposed tariffs on China, and tightened immigration policy. He was impeached twice by the House (over the 2019 Ukraine matter and over events tied to January 6, 2021) and acquitted by the Senate both times. He lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden, and the Capitol was attacked on January 6, 2021. He subsequently faced numerous criminal and civil cases, and in 2024 was elected again, taking office as the 47th president in 2025 - one of the few U.S. presidents to win two non-consecutive terms. His career mixes achievement and controversy, and this profile aims to present both neutrally and with traceable sourcing.
