Michel Krieger, born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1986, moved to California in 2004 to study symbolic systems at Stanford. In 2010 he co-founded Instagram with Kevin Systrom as CTO, leading nearly all early engineering and UX, pivoting the product from a check-in concept to photo-only sharing, and after Facebook's ~$1B acquisition in 2012, scaling the engineering org past 450 people and monthly active users from millions to one billion.
