Xu Xin
Today Capital founder who finds great CEOs by instinct
Born in 1966, Xu Xin graduated from Nanjing University and later obtained a master's degree from the London School of Economics. She worked as an analyst at Peregrine Investment Bank, then joined Baring Private Equity Asia before founding Today Capital in 2005. With consumer retail as her core investment domain, she invested in JD.com (2006, generating nearly 200x returns), Meituan (early stage), Dianping, TAL Education, and other super unicorns. Xu Xin is known for her extraordinarily strong CEO judgment intuition; her famous saying 'finding a great CEO is like finding a great spouse' has become a classic expression in China's VC community. When she invested in JD.com, she foresaw Liu Qiangdong's potential to become China's largest retailer when he had only one small store, considered one of the most prescient investment decisions in Chinese VC history. Today Capital manages over $1.5 billion in assets.

Before investing, she personally visits stores and talks to consumers, forming judgments through firsthand experience. She said: 'I'd rather trust what I see with my own eyes than what's written in a report.'
- Good Investing Requires the Patience of Long-Term Holding - Xu Xin is known for extremely long holding periods; she continued holding JD.com stock long after its IPO, believing truly excellent companies need time to demonstrate value.
